A bit of New York styling. Characters

SOME PEOPLE I CAME ACROSS

* Woman's voice at Grand Central Station. Mid 20s. Tired. Strong New York Accent:

"Attention! Attention passengers. The 4.42 Train to Newark is delayed three minutes. Could all passengers proceed to Platform B. Thank you." Two to three seconds later... "Attention! Attention passengers boarding the 4.42 train to Newark. This service is now cancelled. Thank you." About half a minute later... "Attention! Attention passengers. The 4.42 Train to Newark is now boarding. Thank you."

* A man and woman. Late 30s. Man looks like average Joe. Tall. Woman wearing White rimmed sunglasses, fake fur jacket, dirty jeans. They are on opposite sides of the road.

MAN: Give it up already!
WOMAN: You are a dirty, scheming c**t! You deserve everything you get -
MAN: You look like a total prositute Beth!
WOMAN: - and no one will go out with you because you have every disease - what do you mean I look like a prostit - you know what it's over -
MAN: It's so over. BITCH!
WOMAN: You are such an asshole Marty. Go cry on your mother's bed, go suck on her teat...
At this stage I was the only one staring and got a wildeyed look from the woman and buggered off quickly

*Handsome young black man on the street. 19. Looks like he's made an effort to dress. Holding a CD player and headphones.

"y'all this is my new soundtrack. I wrote, performed and produced it maself. You can be one of the first to hear Famous Seamus.... Come on lady, want to listen to this. You like rap-fusion? Right over here, a first for New York city! Famous Seamus on the streets, it'sdope."

I could live here...

The Cold is intense, the snow is falling so heavily. My chest kind of hurts from the freezing -6 temperatures, but oh New York, New York.
Firstly I should say that the cocktail last night was bigger than my handbag (really) and I felt horaciously jetlagged/hunglebunks today.
We woke early - Shosh, oh kind one, is letting big ol me share her bed with her. Slept pretty well and my sleep talking quota is way down... touch wood.

Us in the intense snow... Ive never seen anything like this!!

I woke at about 6am completely wired. We got up, had waffles and hot coffee after a brief subway ride (I still dont understand the system completely) and I visited the Neighbourood Playhouse. Oh my. It's fantastic. It is old and it really breathes that acting life style - it has a more respected air than other places Ive seen, it does not have the clean, good looking, falsified feel of NIDA and its students work so hard to keep their place at the school, you can see the reward of being there everyday on their faces.

I got a text from Lorae, a friend of mine whose coincedently in town! She suggested I come to her as I was close and then we pottered down the road for coffee where there was a huge table full of NYC cops chattering away. They said hello to us, asked how our day was and then talked about their wives and brothers for the good part of an hour in thick accents that I would usually attribute to Boston. So funny.

She had a brilliant idea: we visit the United Nations. Look, I must be honest, I didnt think it was in New York. Very embarrassing.
What a fantastic thing to do. It's not on all the tourist maps, but you go through customs (as yu are leaving the US by going in) and can choose to visit the exhibitions and book stores and perhaps take a tour. We did all three. It was wonderful to see how much people work for equality and peace. To really see it.
The exhibitions were not censored. The Holocaust one really made a mark on me. The pictures of the children. What human adults did to children disgusts and destroyed me somewhat. So very very sad. And it was only after these extreme acts of violence, betrayal of mankind and war that the UN was set up. There's only a couple of places that don't participate. Cook Islands, Niue and Vatican City.

The tour was compelling - our stunning Nicaraguan tourguide got us to ask questions and make comments. they had on display bombs from Cambodia and some other countries in the shape of kids toys like a yoyo. Attracting children. Disgraceful.
What the UN is working towards and succeeding in is incredible. Visit if you go to New York. Visit.

I also forced Lorae to get United Nations stamps printed with our faces on it - see above.... Delegates, no?

We then went to Grand Central Station, into the market and food stalls, gorgeous and I bought some lovely fresh soup, crunchy bread and oranges. Lorae bought me some cheese after a stupid ass cheese man had a go at us for trying to take a sample. "This is only for customers Ma'am" What a jerk. Oh well, we made him pay by being extraordinarily polite. Sucka lucka.

I caught a cab home, put on an accent so as to not get jipped (already find myself having slight accent. Bit embarrassing really. Am not trying. And now Im one of those people... or rather one of those actresses. Dork.

AILEEN: Special note for you. There is in the picture up the top somewhere a gift given by Thailand and a couple of other countries, pieces of beauty that were Buddha's. Thought you might like to see.x

Tonight, I'm going to persuade Broche to come to Avenue Q with me. Over and out.

In New York and its snowing hardcore

Well, this is nothing like the pansy-snowfall I saw in Paris, that was more actually of piles of snow left over and extra cold rain. This is my first experience of a heavy snowfall.
I arrived in New York yesterday and was accosted by some men trying to get me into their Gypsy cabs. I was toting abut 5 bags and looked like a vulnerable tourist... anyway no thank you as I yanked my bags away and ended up in a registered cab with a beautiful looking Indian man in a turban... However, what Shosh calls the New York Crazy syndrome 'Honestly Kate they're all completely nuts' - turned into an amusing escapade as he spoke Hindi I think, to himself, then too me... yikes. I stopped as Shoshs and got into her apartment on the upper East Side, Manhatten. The room toasty warm and we chatted away for ages then decided to battel my jetlag by going out, get a Time Out and checking out shows and movies. Ended up meeting Timothy Carlsen for giant (next time Kate, in America, don't ask for the large over the medium.) cocktails and Mexican, then saw the Reader... she totally deserved the Oscar for that one, let me tell you!!
Anyway, I've got to go explore heavy snw in NYC now

Well, its been swell. I cant stay long on the computer because Stefan and Anne have made me a feast of Raclette.
Today Anne and I ventured out unto the HOT (believe it or not!!) sunny day in Paris, we picked up my 2nd suitcase from Olivers (Why oh why??!!) and then went for a Le Marais jaunt... meant not to go shopping but somehow... Anne is brilliant and awesome. A new BFF.
So back home for food

Pina Coladas in Place du Capitole?? Oui! Oui! EDITED

For Heidi_below image

I wont write much for two reasons. One Im feeling a little worse for wear.2, finally found a way to upload pics...Yayyy!!
Pina Coladas and wine with friends in Place du Capitole last night. Theyre are in random selection of photos.
They gushed at me about how I looked like Scarlett Johannsen. Compliments indeed. When I got up early after restless night hearing couple next door bonking all night, I went for Petit Dejeuner at a local cafe in the Pl du Cap. Sorry for those who read, my time at the internet cafe stopped!! Anyway I was sitting in this place for brekkie and there was agroup of hip people my age and this gorgeous man in the group kept staring at me, I was getting a little over whelmed, thinking A) hes noticed a giant glob of confiture on my face or B) he has realised the potential of my larger than life Scarlett Johannson like beauty and wants to take me out to see amazing and wonderous things for my last hours in Toulouse... To my horror and delight he started to get up and come over to me. Crap I thought to myself, he¨ll be French and I cant speak it, and he¨ll tell me of the glob of jam or how he thinks we are soulmates. Then just as he was about 2 metres from me, eyes locked, a young beggar woamn wearing (quite funky actually!) studded jeans came up to me and asked for money, I was confused at first, asking What! loudly in French when I finally comprehended what was going on and said Non! I looked up and his friends were starting to leave and he grabbed his bags, looked back at me, and crossed the square. I did nothing. I missed my chance and for those of you who want to know, I didnt have a glob of ajm on my face and shall never know why he was coming over... The Tragedy!!!!
